About Us
The Five Pearls Foundation, is a nonprofit 501(c)3 public charity created to bring added value to the community service projects of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc, Sigma Nu Zeta Chapter. The idea of the Five Pearls Foundation was conceived by ten women who dreamed of providing extraordinary service to their community. It was inspired by the legacy of the Founders, the Five Pearls of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. Arizona Cleaver (Stemons), Myrtle Tyler (Faithful), Viola Tyler (Goings), Fannie Pettie (Watts), and Pearl A. Neal. “Women who believed that sorority elitism and socializing should not overshadow the real mission for progressive organizations; that is addressing societal mores, ills, prejudices, and poverty affecting humanity in general and the Black community in particular.”
The organizations mission is: to increase prenatal education and enhance youth and community development programs for underserved communities. We will serve our community and program participants with integrity and a commitment to excellence.
It is our vision that as a result of the efforts of the Five Pearls Foundation there will be:
- A decrease in the incidence of premature births in Harlem.
- Underserved, low income women of color will have support that will lift them out of poverty into financial stability, out of the darkness of loneliness and into a supportive nurturing environment.
- Our youth will have increased exposure to cultural, educational and economic opportunities that will open them up to new possibilities for their lives and create well rounded, intelligent, confident and healthy young adults who are prepared for higher education and viable careers.
We pursue our mission by developing strategic partnerships with existing organizations to provide support for our prenatal care program, the Stork’s Nest, to develop scholarship opportunities for college students and to provide support for youth and community development initiatives.
